ABOUT JameS
James de Berg brings a rare depth of courtroom and corporate experience to the KPA Lawyers litigation team.
Admitted as a Solicitor in 1994 and called to the NSW Bar in 1996, James spent many years litigating a broad variety of cases as a practising Barrister. Every client he advises for KPA Lawyers benefits from his deep understanding of what it actually takes to win both in the courtroom and in the preparation phase of every case.
Beyond the courtroom, James brings over 13 years of hands-on executive experience as a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Corporate Legal Counsel, having built and led businesses across a range of Australian industries with large international footprints. He has managed large P&L’s, led multiple mergers and acquisitions, completed due diligence on over 25 companies, and seen through 7 transactions to completion in companies he has led.
Building and leading multi-disciplinary teams, navigating complex supply chains both domestically and internationally, developing corporate governance frameworks, and managing the full spectrum of commercial risk, gives him an instinctive understanding of what’s actually at stake when a dispute lands on his desk.
As Special Counsel at KPA Lawyers, James works closely with clients to develop litigation strategies that are clear-eyed, commercially grounded, and built on genuine trial experience. He understands that litigation is not just about the law. Assessing risk, cost, timing, and understanding the commercial reality is just as important.
